Willard J. Page

(1885-1958)

Willard J. Page was born in Whiting, Kansas in 1885. He maintained a small painting studio in Boulder, Colorado while traveling constantly around the Southwest from the 1930s through the 1940s with his wife, Ethel, in their makeshift RV. Page made his living painting mostly small, colorful, realistic plein-air pictures throughout Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and the California desert. He sold these charming works as the couple traveled about, or out of his studio while in residence in Boulder. Page’s work has an extremely authentic, somewhat folksy yet realistic quality. He displays a remarkable mastery of creating small works with strong compositions, which are both beautiful and highly evocative.
